got my kindle a few days back. needless to say it is awesome. for the first time im enjoyimg reading on an electronic device without any eye strain.
a word about delivery. i live in simla and got the package delivered without any need to fill any form 39 etc. my father signed it for me and dhl/blue dart guys called me to confirm that i had recived the package as name on signature was different.
it was all hassle free.
may be they have changed some procedures.

I've checked the coverage map for wireless in Mumbai and Pune, and verified that 3G service is not available. However, I see that EDGE/GPRS coverage is available in these places, but this coverage has lower speed when compared to 3G. Hence, you might be experiencing difficulty while downloading books wirelessly.

Anybody facing issues with getting their Kindle connected wirelessly in the last few weeks?

My 2G Kindle now refuses to get connected to the wireless network (the signal strength bar stays on zero). When I turn the wireless on, sometimes I see the text "3G" instead of the "EDGE" that I used to see earlier. Is this due to the rollout of the 3G networks in India?

Just send it by India Post. And put it as damaged item being returned. You can insure it as well. AFAIK, Amazon will pay for it.

Hi, Chirag,

I also got the Kindle purchased through my friend in us and paid USD 157. But after arriving India, Kindle got bad the very next day. Now Amazon has shipped the replacement Knidle, which I received in Ghaziabad without any problem.

Now problem is that, the defective Kindle i have to ship back to Amazon. Courier company are very unhelpful. Some demand IEC code, some advised to appoint an clearing agent. Can you help me as how I can ship the defective Kindle back otherwise Amazon will charge my card USD 203. Thanks in advance.

Chirag, I'm planning to buy Kindle. My main purpose of getting an Ereader is to be able to read PDF's with images and scanned books and textbooks. You said PDF's cannot be zoomed. Amazon says in Kindle's description that it has some pan and zoom 300% for PDF's. What does that do? Would that allow me to read pdf's with embedded images easily and zoom it too?

@Asheesh You can use Calibre to organise your books and Calibre allows you to enter teh appropriate metadata and automatically does what neeeds to be so that they show up on the Kindle in the right manner.
